Every first Friday of the month, T|P|Republic honors a vertically-fortunate individual that has made a significant impact on the political, entertainment, philanthropic, athletic or business fields by inducting them into the “Tall of Fame.” Check out this month’s inductee…
Who:
Yao Ming – Professional Basketball Player
Height:
At 7’6 Yao was the tallest NBA player during his tenure
Where:
Shanghai, China
When:
Inducted June 1, 2012
Why he is appreciated:
We here at T|P|Republic respect those that separate themselves from the masses. Those that can be recognized as individuals, Yao Ming is one of those men. Yao is one of China’s most recognizable athletes. As of 2009, he had led Forbes’ Chinese celebrities list in income and popularity for six straight years.
Yao has also participated in many charity events during his career, including the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program. In the NBA’s offseason in 2003, Yao hosted a telethon, which raised 300,000 U.S. dollars to help stop the spread of SARS.
Welcome Mr. Yao Ming to the Tall of Fame. Don’t worry about writing a “check”, this one is on us
